Mission of Mercy’s core mission has not changed since it was founded in 1994 In Maryland by Gianna Sullivan, Pharm D as a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization.  We describe Maryland-Pennsylvania program of Mission of Mercy as “seeking to restore dignity and to ‘heal through Love,’ by providing free healthcare, dental care and prescriptions to those we serve.”

Our clinics provide compassionate care to the uninsured working poor who do not qualify for health assistance programs.  Additionally, we care for under-insured people who cannot afford their high deductibles, co-pays and/or prescriptions.

Through the years Mission of Mercy expanded: in 1995 we grew the Maryland program to include southern Pennsylvania; and in 1997, we began a program in Maricopa County, Arizona.  In 2007, a third program was added in Corpus Christi, Texas.

When hard times hit our nation, as they did during the recession that started in 2008-2009, we faced the daunting challenge of serving more patients even as funding for all nonprofits declined – sometimes precipitously!

Like many organizations, we were forced to cut staff and payrolls to minimize the negative affects to our patients.

But, with the recovering economy, lots of prayers, and prudent leadership and stewardship, we are rebuilding our programs and donor base.  Additionally, we have  had a series of successful fund-raising programs this year.  For example, our Maryland-Pennsylvania program events included:

  1. Mercy in the Morning – Uniting to Heal Breakfast
  2. The annual Frederick Golf Classic at Holly Hills
  3. The Harrisburg “Campaign for Care – Uniting to Heal”
  4. The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community
  5.  An “Evening of Healing & Hope”
  6. Our annual gala, the Bubble Ball
