Welcome Tony Banegas!

Mission of Mercy’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Antonio “Tony” Banegas as our new Chief Executive Officer. Tony was selected to lead the national organization effective March 11, 2019, as long-time CEO, Dr. Henry “Hank” W. Konerko steps into retirement.

Tony brings more than 25 years of experience working with nonprofits, including the Arizona Community Foundation, Arizona’s Children Association, Southwest Human Development and Children First Foundation. Tony also served as Honorary Consul of his birth country of
Honduras in Arizona for a decade.

“Tony’s vast experience leading nonprofit social service and humanitarian organizations in Arizona will serve Mission of Mercy well as we continue to grow our funding base and move to expand our clinic sites,” said Executive Director, Paula Carvalho. “His passion for servant leadership will be an asset to our team as we continue our work of providing vital healthcare services to those who are most in need in our community.”

The Arizona program is delighted with the appointment of a leader who is well known and respected in the Valley’s nonprofit community! We are confident that Tony will provide excellent leadership and assist each Mission of Mercy region in reaching its annual and longterm goals.

Thank You Dr. Henry Konerko!

It is with gratitude that Mission of Mercy bids farewell to our CEO of 13 years. Hank’s commitment to Mission of Mercy goes back even further to his board service beginning in 2003, years before assuming the CEO position.

Under Hank’s leadership, the Arizona program has grown from serving 11 days per month in Phoenix, Maryvale and Mesa, to serving 20 days per month at seven clinics across Maricopa County. We are now serving 3,500 patients annually with 15,000 visits!

We acknowledge Hank’s commitment to Mission of Mercy’s growth and sustainability over the years and wish him well in his retirement
