Mission of Mercy has successfully maintained a volunteer program since its inception in 1994. Mission of Mercy enjoys low turnover among its volunteers and they are clearly among the most dedicated volunteer health care professionals in the region. Last year, Mission of Mercy's medical professionals in Arizona, Maryland, and Pennsylvania volunteered over 22,334 hours, valued in excess of $529,900. Additionally, over 1,200 members currently serve in Mission of Mercy’s Auxiliary, MOM's Family. Volunteer greeters, translators and registration staff work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Physicians and Healthcare Professionals
If you are an active or retired licensed medical professional, Mission of Mercy's Medical Clinics could use your skills to help serve our patients, particularly if you are a physician (internists and specialty), physician assistant, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, pharmacists, dentist, dental hygienist, or dental assistant. Volunteers are needed Monday - Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Malpractice Insurance for Volunteers
Many of the healthcare providers that volunteer at Mission of Mercy have private malpractice insurance that will cover their volunteer activities. However, some volunteers either do not have private malpractice insurance (recently retired), or their policy only covers their employment (such as at a hospital or US Government). For these professionals, Mission of Mercy has a malpractice insurance policy that covers their volunteer services at Mission of Mercy.
Referral Specialists
Collaborative efforts enable our patients to receive greater comprehensive medical care. If a patient needs specialized care, Mission of Mercy seeks to locate a specialist physician who will volunteer to care for that patient free-of-charge in his or her office. We are currently seeking specialists willing to accept 1-2 referrals a month.

Hospitality, Registration and Translators
At all clinic locations, volunteer greeters and registration staff are needed.
Many of Mission of Mercy’s patients are immigrants that are employed in the service industry or as agricultural or seasonal workers. Many come from rural areas in Mexico and Central America and do not read or understand English. Spanish translators are needed at all Arizona sites, and at several clinics in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
If you are interested in volunteering as a hospitality, registration clerk or translator, please contact:

Note about Recruiting New Volunteers
The most effective way to recruit health care providers is for current volunteers to speak directly to a potential volunteer. This is particularly true among physicians and the health care professionals. If the recruiter is known and respected by the potential volunteer, the level of success is increased dramatically.
